Abstract

Generation Z, the popular generation of recent years, has been added to the concept of generation, which consists of generations born in approximately the same years and sharing the conditions and troubles of the same age. Many issues such as the preferences, goals, perspectives on life and value judgments of Generation Z, the generation created after the millennium, have made Generation Z more important than previous generations. Freedom, self-confidence, technology addiction and individuality, which are the characteristics that distinguish today's generation from other generations, have paved the way for this generation to be examined scientifically by researchers.  The main purpose of this research is to determine the perceptions of high school teachers about Generation Z through metaphors. In this study, phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The study group of the research consists of 131 participants working in secondary education institutions. Participants were reached using an easily accessible sampling method and were administered an opinion form developed by the researchers. The form consists of two sections. The first section of the form includes demographic information about the participants. in which expert opinion was obtained.  In the second part, the participants said, “Generation Z……. It looks similar. Because……." They were asked to complete their statements. The data obtained at the end of the study were analyzed in accordance with content analysis. As a result of the research, the participants' opinions about Generation Z were gathered in eight categories. These; Metaphors were created as generation without purpose 26, generation with consumption 23, technological generation 18, generation without rules 17, generation without hope 15, selfish generation 14, promising generation 11 and mysterious generation 5. When the metaphors produced in the study were examined, it was understood that the majority of teachers had perceptions that Generation Z is aimless, is used to consuming ready-made products and cannot break away from the social media environment.
